School. The sights! The sounds! The smells! It's loud, chaotic, and a crazy overwhelming place. This is especially challenging for my little ones who have experienced trauma or who have disabilities. The skills of emotional self-regulation, empathy, and positive self-talk must be taught, the same way we teach reading, writing and math. This project is to furnish my special education classroom with tools to help students calm down when they are overwhelmed and struggling to regulate their emotions. I want to offer extra comforts such as a large weighted blanket, heated neck pad, and books to help teach the skills of emotional regulation and ways to be a giving, loving member of our community. I'd also like to update our sensory walk to benefit all students in our school when they need a wiggle break. Help me set these kiddos up for the amazing experience of success in school and beyond! Since I serve both campuses of our school (grades K-2 on one campus, and grades 2-5 at our second campus), these materials will have a far reach.
