The students at our school come to the library searching for that perfect book to engage with and learn from. Research shows that while diversity in children's literature is improving, we still have a long way to go, and not all literature is created equal in terms of meaningful representation. We must honor all of the identities and experiences of all the learners in our school, and provide all students with opportunities to see themselves represented in literature. This project would build up our school library by adding some high-quality titles that represent the varied experiences of the children in our school, and help them have more opportunities to connect authentically with literature. In addition, all readers will benefit from these titles, and will be provided with opportunities to read about a variety of people and characters. These books would be accessed by students at all grade levels, as well as staff.
