Understanding how atoms and molecules arranged to create our amazing universe can be a daunting task for students. Models are a great tool to understand how the properties of matter are the result of the interaction between elements at the atomic level. Furthermore, the use of models is one of the most important Engineering and Science Practices middle school students need to master to become proficient in science and technology. I plan to use the material in three different ways: a) 3D models that show how chemical bonds bring atoms together to form molecules; b) software that provides additional information about the molecule the student builds; and c) element cards that students will use to build their own periodic table. The material is not consumable. Thus, your contribution will enrich the learning experience for hundreds of students over the course of many years.
