Best strategies in our classroom prove that sensory toys and tools activate my students motivation to learn as well as soothes them. Each of the small sensory items (i.e. the squishy) and science box will go in our sensory stations on a rotation basis; we have three in our room. When under or over-stimulated, the sensory mat will be a flexible learning space for students to learn or engage in social play. It will also offer my students, especially my hearing-impaired student, a "chill zone" to both explore and meet emotional needs. The dry eraser table will be a great community academic space where we can come back together as a group. The erasable table also promotes my students to participate and not be afraid of making mistakes - we just erase and try again. As we learn to communicate and reinforce positive behaviors, the white board table will also be a great place for students to write when over stimulated instead of the wall or floor. My unique learners need to balance their sensory diet to encourage social, emotional and academic learning and these items will bridge that gap by offering them a space to grow, EXPLORE and balance their sensory needs, feel "safe," and encourage mobility and active participation independently or as a community.
