Every year for my Spanish classes, we do a unit on Day of the Dead. I have my students create an authentic craft so they are able to not only learn about the holiday and culture but also experience it! The kids love to learn about this holiday every year. We compare and contrast Halloween, learn about the history of Halloween, learn about the history and customs of Day of the Dead and then make our crafts! We also eat authentic Mexican foods. I fund the majority of the unit and it does become expensive. If I could have the crafts paid for, it would make a huge difference!
