These items will continue to enhance the hands-on, enriched classroom that I strive to create. My history classroom is a place that my students really enjoy-I love creating and discovering more about history with my students, and they love creating historical artifacts independently! What a great gift to be able to share with them the art of thinking like a historian. My students will benefit from these donated resources by practicing essential historian skills like understanding past people's motivations; you need to understand the historical context within which events like the "Age of Exploration" unfolded. I ensure that the students see the whole picture. I’m very excited to use art materials in a way that gives students a chance to grapple with their own opinions and interpretations of history. Each historical artifact chosen is tied into folklore of the civilization or time period. Help my grade 7 students create artifacts, such as Native American arrowheads, Aztec pottery, and creating their own archeological digs. Every student book and artifact created by my students is placed in the classroom museum for future historians to explore. The supplies are treated with love and care, and students are thankful for the opportunities to think and discover like a historian. Students will be able to choose to recreate history which will help them continue to enjoy independent, hands-on historical thinking.
