I recently attended a conference that was all about UDL (Universal Design for Learning) which is a blueprint for teaching students with special needs and helping all students be successful within the general education classroom. Students with special needs are: students with autism, students with ADHD diagnosis, students with learning disabilities and students with language barriers. Flexible seating is one component of this type of learning because it allows for the inattentive child to move to a chair that enables him/her to focus on their learning without distractions. Flexible seating allows for the autistic child to find a space that has less sensory overload. Flexible seating as well as "choices" about how the child wants to learn the material are the key components of this learning module.
