Students with communication impairments can be isolated from their communities at home and in the classroom because sharing their ideas and understanding others is more difficult for them. The books selected represent people from a variety of backgrounds and tackle subjects that students may be experiencing in their lives, such as migration to another country. Others celebrate cultural differences and neurodiversity. With books that reflect their experiences, we can connect with students and increase engagement while supporting their language development through literacy activities. Additionally, we can foster community-building within diverse groups by engaging in cooperative games to motivate students to problem-solve and work together.
