These books will inspire my students to read more informational science texts on their own after I integrate my reading instruction with science lessons. I will use the books for whole class instruction that addresses our reading standards with these high interest age appropriate books. My students want to know about the world around them and the titles I am requesting will introduce science facts that will lead to more inquiry. I am also requesting materials we will, after reading about electric energy and magnetism, use to apply our knowledge about closed circuits to build a simple battery powered motor. This hands on project will enable my 3rd graders to build a working motor that they can proudly take home to share with their families. My students will be able to explain how a simple motor works using the magnet wire and magnets I am requesting. This project will inspire boys and girls to learn more about energy.
