I am seeking to purchase under-desk elliptical machines for my students with autism. It seems contrary to conventional wisdom, but incorporating movement in a classroom has been shown to help with learning. The elliptical machines will be new tool to help my students learn to independently take care of their sensory and academic needs. My students are at an age when they are learning new strategies for crisis de-escalation, and refining their existing strategies so that they can better cope with how they perceive the world. As we know, autism affects each child differently; because there is no one-size-fits-all classroom strategy that will guarantee success for everyone, I hope to provide them, with your help, as many options as possible. For some of my guys, just getting to school in the morning is taxing enough. We'll try anything we can to not only help them make it through a day, but to help them achieve their academic goals.
