I have a small Battle of the Books team with absolutely zero books to begin reading. Students will read 15 approved books from October through February then compete in the district with other high schools based on questions from books they have read. As a librarian, I do not have a budget to provide these students with the books they will need in order to compete. I am hoping not to disappoint the students in not having a Battle of the Books team at my high school due to not having enough funds to purchase these books. These students are excited that our school has a team, even though it is only a few members, but are ready to begin reading. As educators we are always encouraging kids to read and this is such a wonderful opportunity for them to read books and compete in a district wide contest on their readings.
