I work as a speech language pathologist in the diagnostic kindergarten in my elementary school and the students in the classroom exhibit speech and language delays due to a variety of diagnoses including autism, medical problems, developmental delays and intellectual disabilities. I teach language (expressive and receptive) skills as well as literary skills in the group. Research shows that quality of language and literacy instruction for pre-readers has a huge impact on their language and reading skills; both of which play a key role in future academic and social success. I would like to have my own classroom library of great children's literature with which to present literacy units to the children.
