Nearly 50% of the students in my school are English Language/Multilingual Learners. They love to share their life experiences through writing. This writing for newcomers requires images to be used to support student comprehension and communication. It is wonderful to see the children's excitement when they can add beautiful, colorful, real life images to their writing! It is also very important to teach students who are learning a new language vocabulary through images that support connections between their first language and the new language being learned. Having pictures in color helps to support this endeavor. That is why it is so important for our students to have these materials.
