The materials selected for this project will allow my students the opportunity to create a three dimensional figurative sculpture that appears to be cast from a mold, but is actually created through traditional additive crafting methods. This is an exciting alternative, since mold making and metal casting processes are expensive, time consuming, and usually involve a degree of exposure to toxins. After creating the figure's gesture with sculpting wire, students will cover the form with paper and sealer to set up the illusion of a metal sculpture form. Next, students will cover the paper and wire with an opaque coat of black or brown paint. The finishing touch will be a lightly applied layer of metallic paint.
