Along with their backpacks and intrinsic enthusiasm, the 1st graders in my class bring with them from home an array of challenges. All the while, in school they are trying to adjust and assimilate both socially and academically the best they can. I want the classroom ambiance to be colorful, inviting, and calm; one that is glittered with stimulating visual, tactile and flexible aesthetics. They deserve a bright and inspiring yet calm environment that allows them to flexibly and mindfully incorporate coping and learning skills. Almost every item I have chosen to be donated is colorful, from the rainbow colors of the flex stools, to the bright colors of the dry-erase dot circles. I want color to invigorate the students as soon as they step into the classroom. From there, I would like their journey of learning to be glittered with both a stimulating and a calming environment. The donated items I have chosen will appeal to their senses in a variety of visual, tactile, auditory and kinesthetic ways: Colorful hanging lights can be changed to provide a calming, warm-white hue. An aromatic oil diffuser provides natural, soothing aromas. Seating pillows are soft to the touch. Wobbly cushions/stools and bouncy bands allow for physical movement that may reduce anxiety and stress. The wireless speaker can transmit both uplifting and relaxing music. Hearing their own voice spoken into wireless microphones and headphones can be cathartic and build self-esteem. Portable seating allow them to choose a tranquil niche where they may focus. Thank you for your consideration in funding a classroom environment that I envision will engage and inspire learning in these bright and resilient students!
