Getting students excited about learning is so important! Just saying that we were able to borrow another teachers Magna Tiles or LEGO set for a STEM lesson, gets the children so excited about the skills they will be working on. Students think they are just playing but so many important skills are being developed. My students had in depth conversation about what they were planning to build (a castle) and how they are going to do it when they were asked to construct a building people could live in. Then when they come to a problem (they "need" a drawbridge so people could get in), they worked as a team to find a solution on how make it happen.
