Swimming is a life skill and is not always available to students who live in high poverty and/or urban communities. These materials will help students learn about themselves and the skills needed to be safe, have fun, and appreciate the aquatic environment—whether learning to swim for safety or fitness, learning new aquatic games and activities, or the importance and presence of water on our earth. Over the course of the past 18 months, the Covid-19 pandemic has closed pools, limited lesson availability, and forced many families and swimmers to find alternative ways to practice and learn about swimming. Having the opportunity to learn swimming skills and safety while in school is exciting and needed in many communities. Our community has seen an increase in drownings these past 18 months. Swim lessons and water safety awareness are the two best ways to be safe and knowledgeable about being around aquatic locations.
