With the limited amount of flexible seating we have within our classroom, I have already witnessed exceptional growth from these students. My students are sitting in hard chairs for for many hours of the day, and although I give them many opportunities to move around the class, more seating choices would help them focus and learn. The top 10 benefits for flexible seating are, choice, physical health, comfort, community, collaboration, commitment to learning, communication, sensory input, and most importantly, FUN! Research tells us that children need to have these things to enhance their personal learning and growth as people. In my classroom I want my students to feel welcomed and safe within their environment. Many schools and classrooms have steered away from comfort, but from my experience, this is when children do their best wok. The social emotional learning is the key to every students academic success.
