I am a 5th grade Spanish Dual Language Immersion (DLI) teacher. I teach 5th grade science all in Spanish. It is difficult for my students understand some of the science concepts I am teaching them because the material is presented to them in a foreign language. In general, science experiments and manipulatives are invaluable in a standard classroom, and doubly so in the Spanish DLI classroom! These students require many visuals and hands on activities to help them make connections from Spanish to English in all subjects. However, this is especially important in science where we learn about difficult subjects like matter, physical and chemical changes, land formations, electricity, magnetism and genetics. The materials I am requesting will be invaluable learning tools and experience that these students need in order to develop a love for STEM subjects.
