My students need these materials to better express their learning in laboratory experiments and group projects. As scientists, they need a variety of ways to detail their observations. Having better art supplies in class will allow them to not only express what they've learned with more detail, but also will help them take the NGSS standards to the next level with the application of what they have learned. You might be surprised by how much of a difference colored pencils and markers can make when students are detailing their observations of scientific phenomena. I have seen amazing posters and projects over the years, and these were able to be completed with classroom art supplies. New markers and colored pencils can even make traditional ways of expressing data (graphs and data tables) more enjoyable.
