Many students in my class have trouble finding interesting non-fiction topics that they can relate to. A subscription to Scholastic News gives them a colorful, engaging, weekly magazine that they can immerse themselves in and get excited about. Exposure to non-fiction texts is extremely important for students of this age as they begin making the transition into reading to learn rather than learning to read. My students are learning to communicate in another language! We will use recording headsets to make Flipgrid easy and fun to use! Because my class has a high percentage of ESL learners, it is much easier for them to express themselves through speaking rather than writing.
