As stated by Donalyn Miller, "No single literacy activity has more positive effect on students' comprehension, vocabulary knowledge, spelling, writing ability, and overall academic achievement than free voluntary reading." To provide a comfortable space for free, voluntary reading, the carpet requested will create a library transformation area where students can read and escape into the magic of books. The pillows and chairs will also provide an area where students are eager to go and participate in reading. A place to be comfortable and relax is very important to many of our students who don't have that at home. The storage container will assist with self-management and organization. As a 30 year veteran educator, I know the power in providing a time and place for reading to create life-long readers. Thank you for helping us grow readers.
