Young children need to move!!! Our playground has a huge sand pit area but all the dump trucks are missing wheels, causing frustration and disappointment. Some of the pails are stuck together or cracked. With budget restrictions and cuts, materials are not able to be replaced. With working materials, the students at Wintonbury will be able to purposely work on developing skills in many areas: fine/gross motor, math, social, language and cognitive. Sand toys will enable the preschoolers to effectively engage in play. Filling the dump trucks, pushing them to another location, dumping out the sand will work big and small muscles and activate problem solving skills. Additionally, students learn to work cooperatively and collaboratively with one another.
