As a first-year teacher and an immigrant myself, I was surprised by the amount of work it takes to be a classroom teacher and the long hour's first-year teachers put into their class for planning. I have been in many classrooms as a paraprofessional for almost eighteen years, and now to have my classroom is surreal. Since I do not have many books in my class, getting just the right books to read and a quiet corner to read with means a lot to me. Though I go home every day exhausted, one thing that keeps me going is my passion for those immigrant children who are like me and looking for someone who looks like them and could relate their struggles and the reality of their lives. I pledge to work hard and reach one child at the time. I have/had great respect for all educators, now that I am one of them, I have more respect more than ever.
