During this pandemic, one of the classes that will have to change the most is music. I will be going from having my own classroom with instruments that we share to pushing into classrooms on a cart and not being able to share any materials. While I am in my own classroom, I do not have enough instruments to let each student use their own. We do not know if we will be able to sing so we need to get creative in order to continue making music. I want to create individual bags full of musical instruments and manipulatives for each of my students. In my cart I have pool noodles to create sand blocks, plastic eggs and popcorn for egg shakers(duct tape to seal the eggs), plastic reusable straws to create scrapers, Popsicle sticks to use as rhythm sticks and the scraper for the straws and tulle material to create scarves for dancing. The bags and labels will be used so each student knows which bag is theirs and instruments are never shared. The clipboards will be used so students don't have to sit at their desks all day. The laminator and sheets are in my cart because we do not know if we will have access to the building anytime soon to start preparing for in-person instruction. One manipulative I plan to make for each student is a laminated music staff for them to use the dry erase markers and create and learn notes and rhythms. Everything in my cart is designed to be easy to disinfect if needed. These music bags will also be able to be stored and used in the music room if/when I am able to teach in my classroom again.
