In my school counseling office, I am seeing more and more students with anxiety-related behaviors that interfere with the learning environment. Students that learn the skills to self-regulate will be more ready to learn. Additionally, teaching students about the brain and about trauma will add to their toolbox for self-regulation. Among the materials, I have included group sharing prompts, a variety of sensory manipulatives, colored pencils and coloring books, information about the brain in a chart related to anxiety, and "stress-balls". I have also included a storage bag and disinfectant wipes to keep items clean and tissue for students when they have outward signs of emotion.
