These books will be used as mentor texts everyday during Reader's Workshop. These interactive read-alouds provide the highest level of teacher support for students as they experience a complex, grade-appropriate text. Young readers are on a journey toward efficient processing of any texts they might like to attempt. It is important that they have successful experiences in reading those texts. In creating a literacy-rich classroom, I will be giving my students the opportunity to hear written texts so they can build a rich treasure chest. The goal of all my young readers is to have them engaged in effective, efficient and joyful independent and meaningful processing of written text every day in the classroom. With this set of books, I will be able to expose my students to a wide variety of text to enhance their learning and understanding. They will have the opportunity to hear, build, and stretch their literacy experiences.
