My students struggle to stay focused on every day reading for more than 15 minutes. When texts are more difficult than what they are accustomed to, their attention spans are even shorter. We need help with receiving Shakespeare texts that are more accessible to our students' every day vernacular. Without these, our second language learners and struggling readers will be muddling through words that are above their grade level and too confusing to get a grasp on. “We know what we are but know not what we may be” (Shakespeare's "Hamlet"). My students have the potential to do amazing things and to thrive through Shakespeare's language, as long as they are able to understand it.
