In my new Songs from Musical Theater course, 6th through 8th Grade students will explore at least five musicals per semester: diving into the plot, connecting to characters, and singing core repertoire from each work. Each semester of each grade, students are experiencing different musicals. If a student participated in the course every semester of middle school, they would learn at least 30 shows! Listening to the songs from each musical is essential to this course. With these Broadway Cast Recordings, my students will experience quality examples of vocal technique and character portrayal specific to each musical. They also show the vision of their creators: how do the composers and lyricists capture each character in song? How did the very first actor or actress choose to portray a certain character, and how might that influence others to portray the character? My Songs from Musical Theater students are eager to learn as much as they can about the world of musical theater. I am excited to help them immerse themselves into Broadway classics and game-changers with these Broadway Cast Recordings.
