One of the most rewarding aspects of the human experience is our ability to connect with others. Learning a new language is a way to connect with people from different cultures and to broaden our horizons and minds. As a teacher, I notice it takes a lot of courage for students to practice Mandarin, as they have never been to China nor do they speak Chinese. Therefore, I create various classroom games and activities to help them speak Mandarin and to write Chinese words, while exposing them to Asian culture. I am very excited that my students love to play language games and are willing to come out of their comfort zones to practice speaking Mandarin in front of their classmates.
While preparing classroom activities, I find children engage better with color materials, which naturally draws their attention and increases their interest in the Mandarin Language.
The products I have selected will create pleasant learning experiences for my students, because they will see Chinese words with colorful images. This is especially helpful because some Chinese characters are pictographic. In addition, children can learn about amazing Chinese culture through seeing dynamic and vivid pictures. Student handouts will no longer be in black and white, but in joyful colors!
