Music is a great way for children to express themselves! With many of our students being nonverbal, some of the most engaging activities we do through the day are through music. From transitions, clean up time, circle group time, sharing and more we do through song and rhyme. All of these instruments will help my students work on attention, individual education plans, new skills, retaining previous skills, social interaction and most of all engagement so they can have fun, love learning and want to communicate! Students feel the MUSIC, they are learning through imitation and moving their bodies or shaking instruments to communicate their emotions, their knowledge or their choices! The fruit shakers will be a favorite and help them learn new food vocabulary, learn colors, follow a pattern or follow teacher directions! The circle drums will help them learn basic shapes for math as well as counting and patterns. We will give a different sensory experience with different sounds and lighting, we will be able to turn off the lights and use the glow in the dark shakers. If I am teaching virtually, teacher led on Zoom, they will be able to visually see the cool colors, fun items and hold focus to the screen better to make choices of which ones they want to see or hear or for the teacher to shake. I can't wait to teach through play!!
