If there was no pandemic, the Robotics students at my school would be doing hands-on learning and competing in the MATE ROV competition and the SeaPerch competition. Prior to the pandemic, my students were able to compete with wealthy school districts and bring home top-5 medals in various parts of the competition. This year, however, with many students' families opting to keep them virtual, I am thinking of ways I can bring my projects to them. Since students are home, I thought "Robotics Toolboxes" would be the best way to go about this. This DonorsChoose project covers the cost of 15 tool-boxes. I have some other ones I can use for other students, I just need these 15 to complete the class. These toolboxes will be forever used, so they are not a 1-time purchase. Students in my Engineering I, Engineering II, and Electronics after school programs can all benefit from these toolboxes next year. A core educational belief of mine is that all education should be tied to something a student is passionate about; unfortunately, hands-on education requires a lot of equipment. This project helps my Robotics, Engineering I, and Engineering II students explore their courses through various hands-on projects rather than textbook readings. Without these supplies, I will be unable to implement At-Home labs and experiments. I believe project-based-learning activities are more meaningful and more effective.
