Many of my students have never had access to building materials with which to express their creative and collaborative thoughts. I want to give them the bricks they need to make scenarios which we will then use as inspiration to write stories. Learning to work together to build scenes as an inspiration to writing will build both social and academic skills. Many of my students are language learners and will benefit from having a physical model to describe as they plan their narrative compositions. We currently use a 4 picture model, which helps many of them organize their thoughts. Taking our pre-writing instruction into the 3D world of Lego will add another layer of success to their work.
