I provide speech-language services through a play-based model as children learn most effectively when they're engaged in fun, dynamic activities. Our speech department is in need of motivating, engaging games that can be used as therapy tools, and as reinforcing activities throughout the session. For example, many children love the anticipation of Pop-up Pirate and will ask to play it multiple times in a row. This makes it an ideal toy to use when practicing repetitions of certain sounds, or when teaching how to use full sentences to make requests. We also need some literacy-based toys to help teach children basic language skills, like how to answer "who, what, where" questions. Using beloved characters (like Pete the Cat) and appealing visuals helps support the students' learning in this area.
