I teach a class for high functioning autistic students and students with behavioral difficulties. My group struggles to make friends and get along with others; many of them enter my class with the feeling that they have no friends and spend a majority of their time alone. The worst part is that with video games and computers, many of the kids can get disillusioned with even attempting to make friends and retreat into that world. I would tell you about some of the individuals I've had over the years, but I'd run out of characters before I could do any of them justice. This is a phenomenal group of kids year after year, just waiting to be understood and appreciated for who they are. Some of them have little glitches (glitch is one of the many terms we use in class to describe our issues) that get in the way of making friends, but we work to overcome these things on a daily basis.
