Tennis is a game of strategy along with precision and technique. It requires focus and determination along with physical fitness. When a child decides to explore tennis they are setting themselves up for physical and mental agility that no other sport requires simultaneously. Stroking the ball properly, in the direction you want it to go, with pace and accuracy, along with having to move your body to get to the ball is challenging and exhilarating! Involving students in extracurricular activities expands the left/right brain connection, increases self confidence and releases stress. After a long day at school tennis is an activity that keeps the brain stimulated but in a way that seems fun! Students can challenge themselves at their own pace and gain confidence at the same time. The items I requested are things that will allow student to use materials that are necessary in the sport and some that may allow them to work on things when I am busy assisting others. I have already had a few old tennis rackets donated and have acquired old tennis balls from tournaments in my area. The rackets need to be re-gripped and overgrip will be used when the new grips get worn. Practice balls make it easier for the students to strike the ball as they progress to the next level. My passion is tennis, I play as often as possible and my students are always asking about it. I used to coach at the High School level but got burned out. After a year off and so many of the students at my school asking about the sport I decided it was time to start a program where I work. There is no funding for my sport and I will be volunteering my time but these students deserve it!
