As we move from Distance Learning back to the school, students will encounter a whole new experience when they walk through the doors this year. Our creative students use Art for their Social-Emotional Learning by exploring their ideas, fears, hopes, and emotions. They will use art to view the world around them, learn how artists express themselves and learn to work through problems creatively. Students will use the kiln to create clay busts to explore aspects of their self, they will learn about art from around the world and create ceramic art that explores different cultures and beliefs, and they will explore and create both functional and decorative ceramic artworks. Students explore ceramics every year in middle school. This is an investment that will not only serve the students who are currently enrolled at the middle school this year, but will serve every student who walks through the doors for the next 10-15 years. In a school with over 1000 students every year, this kiln will bring joy to thousands of students in its lifetime.
