The books from this project will be placed in our classroom library and highlighted with book talks to inspire students to select these texts for independent reading. Many of my students do not have access to high-interest, age-appropriate texts in their home, but when they have access to the right books, they become engaged in reading books of their choice for pleasure. They begin to self-identify as readers, even if they haven't finished a whole book in years. My classroom needs more non-fiction to further entice readers who may be resistant to novels, and graphic fiction to pull in the most reluctant students.
