The materials I am requesting will help to take some of my most creative projects to new heights, and turn my my classroom into a collaborative learning Social Studies think tank. Students will use the dry erase boards to work in small groups on multiple projects throughout the school year, all the while building valuable skills such as speaking in front of the class, teamwork, organization, summarizing complex material, and refining various literacy skills. Freshman are often the most vulnerable population and a major goal of our school community is to make sure that no student falls through the cracks, feels the pain of isolation, or sinks academically. All of my classes are organized around group work, and making sure that all students feel safe and involved. World History classes are also the perfect place to develop authentic assessments and collaborative projects where students will learn how to work together, practice problem solving strategies, and develop critical thinking capabilities. I can't wait to see my Freshman, who come from all walks of life, use the dry erase boards to list their countries demands as they take on the role of negotiating delegations during the Paris Peace Conference of 1919. For this presentation students must represent various countries such as Cuba, China, Greece, Panama, and Liberia. They will use the dry erase boards to present their demands, argue for their countries needs, and collaborate to find common ground with the other countries. This project, and many others will be enhanced with the use of dry erase boards on a daily basis. Group work, presentations, and projects will run so much smoother with these products available to my students. (who by the way just so happen to be the nicest, most energetic, engaging, vexing, and deserving kids you can ever meet).
