Right now, in our classroom, we do not have a comfortable place for all students to gather. Every morning we have a community circle, where students get to share about their lives and we can discuss conflicts that have occurred in our community. Unfortunately, we have had to sit on the bare floor for these community circles. We have also been sitting on the floor during read-aloud and for some whole-group instruction. Building community is at the center of my classroom management plan. This rug will help me to build the community by putting all students in the same place and on the same level. We will have enough room to all sit for the community circle. This rug allows each student to have their own space which will help students keep their hands to themselves and in turn help them to focus. My class needs a lot of structure and this will give them even more.
