Last year, I wrote the book "Run and Get Rich!" I was a P.E. teacher with no gym or classroom. I was also a running club coach. Through these experiences, I was enriched in several ways. The greatest of these was the realization the profession is not to be prized over the person. Professional development is important and good for teachers. However, personal development is more important because teachers don't teach subjects, they teach people. I would like to use the resources requested to share the main message of the book: To get what you want, you need to stop doing activities that don't help you, start doing the activities that will help you, and persist with these activities until you reach your goal. During my tenure, I took the opportunity to present a division-wide professional development entitled, "Increasing Your Self-Awareness." These sessions were met with an overwhelmingly positive response. I would like to continue in that vein by providing teachers with additional personal attention and support. Thus, improving their ability to give their students additional attention and support. The requested contribution toward my professional development will increase my knowledge and skill as an educator because it will allow me to network with other educators. By facilitating discussions and extending the invitation to other teachers to share their personal passions, my goal is to help them find ways to employ their enthusiasm to improve their professional outcomes. Instead of their self-interests being sacrificed in service to the profession, my objective is to help teachers use their self-interests to make a greater contribution.
