I was approached by my principal at a K-8 public school that the middle school students needed more diverse clubs. there is the afterschool program, which some may consider a day-care, and a chess club. I was astonished at the small number of options for my students. Clubs have been started in the past, but have faded away, quickly. The one thing I remember from my time in grade school is a board game club in high school. It created an opportunity for me to connect with other students of different ages and with the teacher. My plan is to start something like this at the school I currently work at, an opportunity for students to connect with each other and with an instructor (me). I am also astonished that a board game club has never existed at my school. As a first-year teacher, I want to gather as many games that I enjoyed playing as a kid, but that are beginning to blossom around the youth. I did a lot of research to make sure the games are relevant and enjoyable for middle schoolers.
