While we pride ourselves in real-world learning and have the strongest teachers to spearhead this learning, without sufficient access to technology our students are starting at a deficit. With each one of their learning disabilities, school is even more challenging than it is for the average student in Brooklyn. Extending our reach towards 1-to-1 devices will allow us to target their individual needs and also integrate the crucial technology learning that our students deserve. Technology can be their gateway to ensure success for them in college and future careers. Using these Chromebooks, my students will be able to receive the type of learning in their classrooms that their more affluent counterparts have the luxury of accessing at home and at school. They will learn coding and computer science, they will have opportunities for virtual class discussions and have access to math videos to further their understanding. And they will have the opportunity to revisit targeted areas of struggle in the math curriculum differentiated in order to solidify what has already been covered in my classroom. While our students have made enormous gains over the last couple of years, the number reaching proficiency on our state exams is still well below what we know we can achieve. Please help me give my students the skills necessary to be prepared for a successful future.
