At least three times each year I organize a school wide celebration to reward the students for their hard work and always doing their personal best. This is a day where we put traditional academics aside and focus on fun activities that promote teamwork. Having these games - Tumbling Timbers, large dice, Four in a Row, Bananagrams etc. - will be fun for the students because they are "larger than life" in the eyes of an elementary age child. The students will play these games reinforcing learned skills while also inadvertently learning many skills that can't be taught from a textbook. Playing any of these games will develop students' teamwork and critical thinking skills, taking turns and how to be kind and encouraging to their peers. Developing these skills will be beneficial to the students not only in elementary school but also in their future endeavors. The size and durability of these games will allow all students, no matter their age, to experience success. The students will have the opportunity to use these games not only during our school wide celebrations but also when having indoor recess, during our annual school wide game night and as a part of our annual literacy night.
