My fifth graders are building an amazing community of learners in our classroom this year. More than that, my students are learning how to build positive, lasting relationships with each other. Play is one of the most powerful ways in which students build community. Help me empower my students to be part of a caring and joyful community by funding new games and activities for them to use at recess and during their weekly choice time. Play is essential to learning but is often overlooked and under utilized. Time to play allows a quiet student to meet his best friend through a game of Checkers. These are the times when a student that struggles in school can find joy and belonging in their classroom.
