Technology within any academic setting is vital to maximizing the impact of teachers everywhere. As a speech and language pathologist in an urban high school setting, I will use a computer to equip students with skills needed for today's technology-based world. Speech and language pathology in the high school setting is grounded primarily in language, with a focus on providing students with skills needed to utilize language required in today's world. With my computer, students will have access to the day's most important news, to websites and programs that break language down into more manageable segments, thereby increasing their comprehension of needed information. Aside from student use, every professional needs a computer. I need a computer to track and monitor student progress, to write detailed education plans, to communicate with parents regarding student progress and/or concerns, to keep attendance, and to research latest therapy techniques. There won't be a day that passes in which my computer will not be well utilized and totally appreciated.
