The use of portfolios coupled with colorful highlighters and post-it notes, timers, and quieting headphones help students identify and critically analyze key elements of historical documents and current news articles in a highly organized yet artistic way. Noise cancellation headphones, timers to help the kids stay on task, and some added historical classroom decor will not only take their varied and serious academic and social-emotional needs into account but allow them to feel fully comfortable in a subject that can be overwhelming for the most studious of us due to my kids' sensory overload of information and graphic design. My cart aims to create a social studies environment with special education thought at its heart. I hope you will find it in yours to support my wonderful class of kids.
