During the current pandemic, student safety and student learning are both important. For students learning in person, it is often difficult to have adequate social distancing, especially in an older classroom environment where windows do not open. For that reason, I am looking to create an outdoor classroom. For his Eagle Scout project, a student of mine is refurbishing the decades-old existing outdoor classroom seating and teacher podium, and this Donors Choose project will provide the technology to allow for a full classroom experience. We will be able to integrate virtual and in-person learners and provide a safe, socially distanced outdoor classroom that is just as technologically advanced as our indoor classroom. Once the pandemic ends, we will still be able to use this outdoor classroom. Since our school has 90-minute classes, students sometimes have trouble focusing for the entire class. When I have taken my students outside for a class period, I have found that they are able to stay fully engaged for the entire class time.
