Our Washington D.C. history class is a place in which we learn about our hometown by critically analyzing race, class, and power in the nation's capital. My students and I would love to be able to do book studies about a subject from D.C.'s history which interests each individual personally. Too often the narratives being told in history classrooms are one-sided, impersonal, or lacking nuance, these books would help us to diversify the voices heard! After conducting individual book studies, students will be creating a presentation about the particular aspect of D.C. they have focused on. After sharing these presentations with the class, we will select a few to be shared with the rest of the school, helping students to find their voices as historians! Since every Senior takes Washington D.C. History and Government, your donation will eventually be used by the entire school!
