Music programs are scarce in New York City, and even more scarce than music is the experience of playing in a band. While growing up, I was privileged enough to have a band program that motivated me to bring this joy to children some day, and here I am teaching 5th graders that same joy!
Our band needs new instruments! We have been working with a nonprofit in the past that helped bring instruments to our school, but unfortunately, due to limited funding at our Title I school, we are unable to continue that partnership. It is very costly running a band program, and the plastic trumpets and trombones and marching drumline equipment will have a long life in our school's music classroom. These instruments will bring life to band for our students, from the 4-year-olds dreaming of playing the drums to the 4th graders who have been excited all Summer.
Music is greatly respected at our school - our administration and staff understand the value of this program, band will support our family outreach, and our students leave music class with new perspectives and songs in their hearts. Please consider supporting our program!
